the flying tomato-sorta

so ive been itching to dye my hair for oh i'd say at least a good two to four weeks now...well this last weekend i did...but with some less than desired results...a couple of things i finally learned about hair dye:

#1) be absolutely positively sure you know 100% EXACTLY what color your hair is before you start...thinking its a medium to dark brown when its really more like a light brown can cause problems

#2) when applying move quickly and then make dern sure you get every single strand of hair...otherwise you can run out or worse end up with uneven coverage

#3) if it looks fairly red on the box and has RED in the name on the box...its gonna be REALLY RED!!!!!!!!!!

#4) did i mention know exactly what color hair you are starting with? this also includes being aware that your roots (or new growth hair) could potentially be a different color than the previously dyed hair...ie how i ended up with bright red (bright shimmering flying tomato color) on my roots and a more burgandy/mohogany/purpleish color on my ends...it was basically dumfounding...good thing i didnt take a photo...but just ask the Howe's (Molly, Bill and Marlene...and they can tell you about the color)

#5) when letting your mom dye your hair realize you have to be able to completely trust in her ability to be as anal retentive as you would like to be.

#6) the most important lesson...in hair color correction think of your handy dandy pigment color wheel...the color you have that you want to get rid of (ie. bright flyin tomato red-looks good on mr. white but definately NOT ME!) and then find the color directly opposite it...to cancel out red you would need a greenish hue.

#7) after dealing with the stress of dying hair twice in four days be thankful for the hair on your head not having fallen out or breaking off and decide that sometimes natural really IS better, and that really dark brown(almost black) that is dull can be a color that i am thrilled to have

so yeah...know what you are starting with and know how to fix it before you mess it up...i am sooooo ready now...however im thinkin this may be the last time i dye it for quite some time...i dont think i can handle the stress of it all! or the friedness of my hair either...

:S
